DEATH & CO DC

Washington DC’s Blagden Alley is the location of the 4th outpost of Death & Co. Located in the former Columbia Room space, it was completely renovated and modernized by the team at AAmp Studios while still preserving the former occupant’s mural-sized mosaic. The lush & lively outdoor patio is dubbed The Garden like its sister location in Denver.

Project

Much like the New York, Denver, and Los Angeles locations of Death & Co, they were in need of fresh menu designs with unique artwork and icons. The request for the section openers was to lean more into the abstract, so we started with the letterforms of each section—“B/C” for Bright & Confident, “E/T” for Elegant & Timeless, etc.—and used different styles of each, layered with texture and color to arrive at an abstracted composition still tied to the subject matter. Conversely, the cocktail icons became a bit more literal and less stylized than previous icon sets while connecting the texture and color of the drink/garnish to the opening artwork.

The design for The Garden menus used the same branding we created for its Denver location but in a more vertical format to accommodate the intimate seating arrangements. We also designed the sub brand “Glizz & Glam” for their weekly summer kitchen takeover, employing a high-low twist on classic comfort food and upscale cocktail culture. Think hot dogs, caviar, and martinis.. yum!
